Georgia Center for Total Cancer Care to Hold Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

Public Invited to Open House Celebration for GCTCC at Cowles Clinic

The Georgia Center for Total Cancer Care (GCTCC)—a comprehensive cancer care center bringing together physicians from Atlanta Oncology Associates (AOA) and Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS)—will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate its opening at Cowles Clinic on Linger Longer Road in Greensboro.

The ceremony, open to the public, will be held at the Center—on the campus of Cowles Clinic—on Friday, April 13 at 6 p.m.

“It’s an exciting time for our patients,” said Dr. Dale McCord, President/CEO of AOA, one of the largest radiation therapy practices in the Southeast. “As we continue to grow and expand our services, Georgia’s cancer community can expect to receive the best in cancer care.”

Dr. Cheryl Jones, lead medical oncologist at the site, also looks forward to the opening of GCTCC’s fourth facility.  “I’m thrilled at the opening of our Cowles Clinic office,” said Jones. “It’s another wonderful opportunity for GCS to serve Georgia’s cancer patients.” Georgia Cancer Specialists is the south’s largest medical oncology practice, caring for patients in 30 offices throughout central and north Georgia.

Jones will practice at Cowles Clinic, along with GCS physician Dr. Laura Weakland and AOA physicians Dr. Erich Randolph and Dr. David Lowther.

“We’re proud to have such esteemed physicians on board, and I look forward to working with them to treat cancer in Georgia,” said Dr. Robert Cowles, who established Cowles Clinic in 2004 after relocating his Atlanta-based urology practice to Lake Oconee. Dr. Cowles’ vision of providing state-of-the-art medical care led to the founding of the cancer center at the Cowles Clinic campus. “With this level of advanced, comprehensive cancer care, the stress of long commutes to distant treatment facilities is a thing of the past for cancer patients in the Lake Oconee community,” said Dr. Cowles.

The GCTCC at Cowles Clinic, a partnership of AOA, GCS and Cowles Clinic, is an 11,000 square foot facility that offers medical oncology, hematology, radiation oncology, genetic counseling and an oncology specialty pharmacy, while providing nutritional and weight-loss counseling and family/individual counseling for patients. The facility also includes an on-site auditorium available for community education events.  The Cowles Clinic campus offers a full complement of health care services designed to provide immediate access for cancer patients needs, including on-site laboratory, physical therapy, the Cowles Clinic Imaging Center and comprehensive multi-specialty physician consultation.

The Georgia Centers for Total Cancer Care (GCTCC) are comprehensive cancer treatment facilities with Atlanta Oncology Associates (AOA) and Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) providing cancer care. GCTCCs are currently located in Macon, Blairsville, and Hawkinsville, and now, in Greensboro at Cowles Clinic.  Cowles Clinic is a 13 acre multispeciality medical campus serving the Lake Oconee community and beyond.  The campus houses 38 physicians in 22 specialties providing comprehensive care for all ages in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease.
